Its hard going back, leaving a life of summer, to a fast paced day with lots of new faces. Today was the 2nd day with students, and it wasn't bad. Its always hard starting, but I think we are off to a decent start. the class is small, and its going to be a challenge getting everyone on the same page. We have some students with tons of experience, and some with none at all.
The students are pretty quiet, no questions at all, its a bit odd. Then again, they are in a new school, and don't really know anyone.
I am both intimidated and excited by the challenges of this year. I think its going to go ok, I hold a pretty high standard for myself, I want to constantly improve. I am not sure how keep the balance of everything yet continue to make this program better.
We are taking the class to highfields, mainly for problem solving and group work skill development. Last year we really could have used something like this, we had some serious personalty conflicts.
more soon.

So here we are, Labor day. For it being a day off, a day to enjoy one of the last really nice days of summer, there sure were a lot of people working at the school today. I guess thats just the American way.
School officially starts tomorrow. We have had several days with staff already, but state law states that school doesn't start till after Labor Day. Now if they could only make it law that I get a 10% raise every year we would be in business.
I went in today to try to get as much ready as possible. The first day is definitely the most important, I am I going to try to make mine as effective as possible. I got all of the normal essentials, "this is what we are about blah blah blah...." I am super excited, can you tell?
This year promises challenges that are bigger then I have ever faced. its not so much a show, or a lesson to teach, its more a balance to achieve. There is The SET Program, Haslett's Technical Director (Full time), the baby on the way, and now the chance I might have to go back to school to continue the SET Program. The way the state requirements are, it says I must be taking classes towards that degree. I am not entirely sure how I am supposed to fit that in, we will see how this works out.
Wish me luck tomorrow, I might need it.

...was a remarkable success! "Voices" is a poetry reading/ special event exercise for The SET Program students. Students worked through the process of creating an event from concept to completion. We were able to give a venue for some remarkably talented writers and poets to showcase their work. Though our show ran only about 50 minutes, it was an absolutely wonderful evening. The students used box truss, chain motors, and LED moving head intelligent lighting, voile for the ceiling, and black velour for the walls to achieve a brilliant room. Students also worked on the promo for this show, creating the poster from a photo that was taken during a class. It's truly remarkable how they took a good picture and created a fantastic poster. They put a remarkable amount of work into the event, and it showed. We have just about a month left in class and I am really looking forward to what we have to come. We had our event breakdown/ discussion today, the goods, the bads, and overall what we learned. With only a short time left it really puts the pressure on to cover all I have left, but the kids seem to really be energized after this event, really excited to do all we have left.
